The island Vir is approximately 25 km northwest of Zadar in North Dalmatia, connected by a bridge to the mainland. With a total area of 22,5 sq km visitors to Vir can enjoy rich landscapes as mentioned in the Italian "Punta Dura" (rocky coast), rocky surfaces change themselves off with pine woods and wine gardens, with figs and olives.
With a 31 km natural coastline, nearly unaffected sand and flint beaches with crystal-clear water makes the island a paradise for family vacations. A light northern wind moderates the high-summer temperatures and makes conditions ideal for windsurfers.

With nearly 300 sunny days throughout the year, Vir is also an interesting off-season destination for tourists. For climbers, Vir offers breath-taking panoramas, hiking on the surrounding islands and the Velebit. Climbing on the island from the highest point (112m) up to 1750m on coastal mountains offers a wide variety of choice.

Built nearly 500 years ago as a pirate hideaway, Kaštelina is well worth a visit.
Vir is considered a well kept secret by mountain bikers. For hikers or inline skaters the off-season can be particularly attractive, especially the spring. For tennis players a new outdoor tennis court is available! Owing to its central situation in the Croatian Adriatic is the island ideal starting point for boat trips.
The Paklenica National Park with its impressive canyons is only 70 km north.
Just 80 km to the south are the breathtaking waterfalls and canyons of Krka National Park, where you can take a boat trip to the small island of Krševan, with its historic church.

Vir is also surrounded by a chain of almost 300 islands, part of the Kornati National Park.
Also the world - famous Plitvitčka Jezera lakes are only 129 km away.

Zadar (23 km from the island Vir) offers visitors a picturesque old town full of history. From here daily boat trips can be booked to the Kornaten archipelago.
Another town worth visiting is the old-Croatian city of Nin which has the "smallest cathedral of the world", Sv Križ (holy cross).
During summer-time or off season, Vir is the ideal choice for sportsmen and tourists alike. Enjoy Mediterranean food, rich cultural history, crystal clear, clean seas and of course 300 days of sun. The possibilities are endless and we are sure you’ll find yourself coming back year after year.
